Celebrating new student leadership at Doha College's 2024 Primary Prefect Investiture

Doha College's Primary School recently held the 2024 Primary Prefect Investiture, an inspiring event that brought together the entire Primary student body and proud parents of the newly appointed prefects. The ceremony celebrated the induction of a fresh group of young leaders poised to make a meaningful impact on shaping life at DC this academic year.

The ceremony started with Principal David Tongue's insightful speech on what it means to be a leader. His inspiring speech was followed by Head of Primary's Derek Watson, who wished our future leaders luck in embarking on their exciting journeys to make an impact at the school.

The ceremony marked the official start of the newly appointed student leadership team. Our Head Boy, Head Girl, and their deputies each delivered thoughtful speeches, inspiring their peers to step forward with purpose and responsibility.

This was followed by introducing several of our committees—including Charity, Digital and Communication, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Eco, and Well-being—alongside introducing this year's house captains and vice captains.

A particularly special part of the event was the presence of senior student leaders from the Secondary School, who came to support and inspire their younger counterparts. Their words of wisdom added an extra layer of meaning to the proceedings, encouraging the Year 6 prefects to embrace their roles with courage and confidence.

The ceremony would not have been complete without the beautiful music accompaniment, which included a fantastic performance by Hannah P., who played Mike Cornick's  'In the Groove' on the piano and Gamila B., who delighted us with 'Could Have Been Me' by Halsey on the drums.

The sense of awe in watching our young student leaders present their dreams and ambitions for their roles was immense. I am so very proud of each of our student leaders and the commitment they have made to Doha College. However, the hard work starts now and I look forward to working with all of our student leaders to support their ideas and to helping them bring their ideas to fruition”.
Derek Watson, Head of Primary

As these young leaders embark on their new roles, they are tasked with setting an example for their peers and working towards positive changes in their school community. Their speeches showcased their dedication, enthusiasm, and readiness to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

We wish these students all the very best as they begin their leadership journey and look forward to witnessing their contributions to the school over the coming year!
