Flying Start Programme - Doha College

Flying Start Programme

Welcome to our ‘Flying Start’ programme – a gentle and supportive introduction for children joining Foundation Stage 1 (FS1).

We know that starting school is a big moment for both children and parents. That’s why we’ve created this bespoke school readiness initiative, carefully designed to help your child feel confident, happy and excited about their very first steps into education.

Through playful learning, nurturing routines, and plenty of warm encouragement, the Flying Start programme helps children settle in gradually, build friendships, and get to know their new environment – all before the official school year begins.

It’s a wonderful way to ensure your child gets the best possible start to life at Doha College.

Structured Stay-and-Play Sessions – A Confident Start to FS1

At Doha College, we understand that starting school is a big step for both children and their families. That’s why our Flying Start programme includes weekly stay-and-play sessions throughout May and June, thoughtfully designed to ease your child into school life with confidence and joy.

Each week, your child — accompanied by you or a familiar carer — will join us in a dedicated FS1 classroom. These structured sessions are led by our experienced Early Years staff and are crafted to:

  • Introduce your child to the FS1 environment and daily routines
  • Spark creativity through hands-on play and exploration
  • Build independence and social confidence in a gentle, nurturing setting

It’s a wonderful opportunity for your child to begin forming friendships, developing key early skills, and most importantly, feeling excited about the journey ahead.

Parent Workshops – Supporting You, Supporting Them

While your child is busy exploring, playing, and settling into the FS1 classroom, you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in a series of engaging parent workshops, hosted by members of our experienced and supportive team.

These optional sessions are designed to help you feel confident and informed as your child begins their learning journey. You’ll gain insights into school routines, early childhood development, and ways to support learning at home — all within a welcoming and relaxed environment.

We warmly encourage your child’s participation in the Flying Start sessions. Becoming familiar with the FS1 environment and daily routines can make a real difference in helping them feel prepared, confident, and excited about starting school.

For families currently overseas and unable to attend our onsite Flying Start sessions, we’ve got you covered. Before the end of term, you’ll receive a digital familiarisation photobook filled with images and helpful information to gently guide your child through what to expect in FS1. It’s our way of ensuring every child feels included, supported, and excited for their start at Doha College—no matter where in the world you are.
