Beyond the Stage: Doha College and Mockingbird Academy Celebrate Outstanding LAMDA Results
Delivered through Mockingbird Performing Arts Academy at Doha College, LAMDA forms part of the many opportunities available to pupils beyond the classroom. This year, 144 young people aged 7–18 took LAMDA examinations, with pupils progressing from their first performance experiences through to the highest levels of the qualification.
For many young people, performing in front of an audience can be both exciting and nerve-racking. Through LAMDA examinations, pupils at Doha College have the opportunity to develop the confidence to step forward, find their voice and discover what they are capable of.
Building Confidence Beyond the Stage
LAMDA is about more than performance. Preparing for an examination encourages pupils to develop clear communication, concentration, creativity and resilience, while learning how to manage nerves and perform with confidence.
From learning to use pace, tone, volume and expression effectively to interpreting characters, poetry and dramatic texts, pupils develop skills that extend well beyond the stage. These are valuable skills for presentations, interviews, public speaking and future study, as well as for everyday communication.
For younger pupils in particular, taking an examination can be an important first step in building confidence. This year, 100% of pupils who entered through the early-entry pathway achieved a Distinction, reflecting the commitment and preparation that goes into each performance.
From First Steps to Grade 8
Successfully achieving LAMDA Grade 8 is equivalent to an A Level in Drama, making it a significant qualification for pupils who have developed their performance skills to this level.
For those interested in pursuing Drama, Theatre, Film, Performing Arts or related subjects, Grade 8 can form a valuable part of their academic and creative journey.
But its value is not limited to aspiring performers.
The commitment required to progress through the grades, together with the communication, presentation and performance skills developed along the way, can support pupils regardless of the path they eventually choose.
For pupils in 6th Form, opportunities such as LAMDA can also complement their wider academic experience, allowing them to continue developing their interests and skills alongside their formal studies.
Part of the Doha College Experience
At Doha College, opportunities to learn extend well beyond the classroom. Whether through academic study, sport, the creative arts, CCAs or experiences such as LAMDA, pupils are encouraged to explore their interests, take on new challenges and develop confidence in their own abilities.
The success of this year’s LAMDA cohort is therefore about more than examination results. It reflects the progress pupils make when they are given opportunities to discover new interests, challenge themselves and express their ideas creatively.
Through Mockingbird Performing Arts Academy, LAMDA is one of the many ways the Doha College Experience encourages pupils to develop not only as performers, but as confident communicators and thoughtful, creative individuals.
