Doha College recently hosted the COBIS Music Festival 2023, in partnership with the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). The three-day festival attracted over 120 students aged nine to 17 from nine schools across three continents. Additionally, the composition section of the event saw 27 participating schools join online.
Doha College, held a beautiful outdoor lftar celebration, welcoming its community. Students, parents, and staff gathered together as the sun set, immersing themselves in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and sharing in the rich tapestry of cultural and religious traditions.
After a two-year pandemic-imposed hiatus, British international school Doha College brought “Qatar School Choir of the Year” back to the music scene. Hosted for the first time on Doha College’s new Al Wajba campus, this edition involved sixteen choirs from all around the country; they sang in three age categories, 5 to 8, 7 to 11 and 11 to 18.
A tradition started in Qatar over 10 years ago by Doha College, the illustrious Battle of the Bands returned to its original host for the 2023 edition. It attracted 12 bands from 9 schools across the country, following a pre-selection round within the participating schools. It was a spectacular afternoon that showcased a very ecclectic taste, covering genres from heavy metal to reggae and spanning across many decades of music.
The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO), recently played two performances of Prokofi ev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ to all primary students and their teachers at Doha College. The performance, conducted by Giovanni Passini and narrated by Christoph ‘Kiko’ Schmitz in a most dramatic and captivating manner, was the perfect vehicle or music education.
