Principal's review of the year

Principal's review of the year

As we edge ever closer to the end of 2018, I would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the greatest achievements of this incredibly busy term. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and as much as we are fortunate to have successes from students on a weekly basis, it is impossible to mention each and every one.

New Campus

A few months ago, we began the construction of our new, state-of-the-art campus. This new development has created an excited energy in the DC community, both internally and externally, and I am delighted to share that we have made great progress so far. In the term ahead, there will be an opportunity for stakeholders to visit the new campus to see first-hand its development and I will write to you in due course with further information.  In the meantime, you can keep up-to-date with its progress via our website and by following our social media channels.

High Performance Learning

A journey that started over two years ago has resulted in DC being recognised and accredited as the first HPL School in the world, highlighting our dedication to providing an outstanding education for all. I would like to thank students, staff and parents for their ongoing support and hard work in bringing the HPL philosophy to life at Doha College. We are incredibly proud of this honourable distinction and look forward to further developing HPL over the coming years.

Record results

For the second year running, Doha College achieved record examination results. Not only that, but DC students staggeringly scored the highest mark in the world for mathematics and photography, highest mark in the Middle East for statistics, highest mark in the Middle East for further mathematics and highest mark in Qatar for mathematics, German, French, history, and music in (I)GCSE, AS and A Level examinations. It cannot be coincidental that the improvement in exam results followed shortly after the introduction of HPL, and we are confident that more and more students will be able to achieve similar heights in the coming years as we all adopt the growth mindset philosophy.

TES Award Shortlisting

Doha College was recently shortlisted for the “International School of the Year” award by the Tes Independent School Awards 2019. Tes – short for “The Education Specialists”, are industry leaders in bespoke recruitment for schools and colleges worldwide. Our school stood out among other nominees thanks to its successful implementation of HPL, exceptional examination results, and involvement with the community through its academies and the many enriching events hosted, such as the Medical Review Conference, DCMUN, Qatar Primary School Choir of the Year, the DC 5k and 10k Race and more.

While we take immense pride reviewing these achievements, our focus is firmly on the future and the challenges ahead – the gearing up for the new campus, the upcoming events we are hosting, examinations and of course the faithful implementation of our next Development Plan.

At the end of a very busy and successful first term, I want to take this opportunity to thank you, the DC community, for your unfailing commitment to our students, and let me wish you a restful and festive period and a happy, fulfilling 2019.
