Assessment charter

Doha College is a selective entry school with a focus on academic excellence. As part of the admissions process, applicants are required to meet the entry requirements by means of an entrance assessment. In addition to the academic assessment, we will contact the applicant’s current school to request a confidential behaviour and character reference.

Assessments are designed to ensure that students coming into the academic environment at the College are equipped to cope with the pace and challenge of the curriculum that is delivered within the classrooms.

Entry levels for each year in Primary school would be in line with age related expectations as per UK National Curriculum.

Entry levels for Secondary would be based on the average Cognitive Ability Test scores for that year group in addition to other criteria inclusive of but not limited to pastoral context.

Subject to availability, applicants successful at the assessment will either be offered places or banded onto a waiting list for future intake.

Entrance Assessments

  • FS1 and FS2 entrance assessments will consist of the Early Years team working with small groups of children encouraging them to complete simple social activities and practical tasks.  Through this process we are able to establish if the applicant is able and ready to work within our Early Years environment.
  • KS1 (Year 1 & Year 2) entrance assessment will consist of interactive assessment that offers insight into literacy, numeracy, communication, language, personal, social and emotional development.  A writing sample will be requested for Year 2. (Duration: 20 minutes -45 minutes)
  • KS2 (Year 3– Year 6) entrance assessments will consist of a standardised Cognitive Ability Test (60- 90 minutes) and review of a writing sample.
  • All secondary (Year 7 – Year 12) entrance assessments will consist of a standardised Cognitive Ability Test and an additional English writing paper if deemed necessary. (Duration 90 minutes)

Note: The language of instruction at Doha College is English, therefore all students must be fluent in written and spoken English in order to access the assessment.
