Eco School

Doha College is the first school in Qatar to adopt the Eco School Programme in 2014 and to be awarded the Green Flag status by FEE (the Foundation for Environment Education, the world's largest organisation of this kind), back in 2016. Since then, the College had its Green Flag status renewed in 2017; in 2018, it was renewed by the new national operator, QGBC (Qatar Green Building Council). The Primary school also secured its Green Flag status in the same year. In 2019, both the Primary and the Secondary schools continued to uphold this recognition with renewed Green Flag status.

The eco-school committee

The eco-school committee was formed in 2018 and is made up of student and staff who meet regularly to discuss environmental issues affecting the school and think of ways to overcome them. The committee raises awareness through a variety of initiatives, competitions, and enterprises, and our dedicated team of committee members monitor the results and share these with the wider school community. These include:

  •  Weekly paper recycling
  • Meatless Monday/ Meatless Month initiative
  • Annual Beach Clean with Doha Environment Action Project Doha Environmental Actions Project - Home | Facebook
  • Trips and visits
  • Qatar Sustainability Week and World Environment Day
  • Ocean Awareness Monthly
  • Monthly carpooling initiative
  • Plastic bottle recycling competitions

The new Eco Code for 2019 - 2020 simplifies our approach to sustainability, by focusing our attention on four environmental commitments.
