Doha College celebrates Y12 IGCSE success
The IGCSE celebration evening is an anticipated event in the Doha College calendar every year. It showcases the collective efforts and achievements of the Year 12 cohort, highlighting the outstanding academic performance and personal growth demonstrated by our students. It is an event that brings the entire school community together to celebrate the academic accomplishments of Year 12 students.
Each form tutor handed the certificates to their classes, and this was followed by the presentation of the special awards for the highest marks. As they do every year, Doha College students scored exceptionally well in a global context and brought home an armful of awards, namely nine "highest mark in Qatar" awards, three "highest mark in the Middle East" awards, and one "highest mark in the world" award. Aarya Deepakkumar Desai received no fewer than four awards, namely three "highest mark in Qatar" for Computer Science, Business, and Further Pure Mathematics, as well as "highest mark in the Middle East" for Physics. Here, he gives us a glimpse of how he achieved such a feat.
I enjoyed all my IGCSE subjects, but the one that really stands out to me is Mathematics. Ever since I was young, I have always used Math as a tool to gain a deeper understanding of many topics. Math helped me understand how each action has a scientific and mathematical reasoning behind it. My preferred way of studying revolves around the different types of subjects. For theoretical subjects such as Physics and Mathematics, I prefer jotting down notes after school, and focusing on solving timed practice papers. For more intuitive subjects like English and Business, I refer to interpretations from different sources, and compile them based on my own understanding. I cannot understate the efforts of all my teachers who have provided guidance and mentorship to me at all times. Nonetheless, I believe in discipline and routine forming. Three months before my GCSE’s, I formulated a plan on how I would study for all my subjects, and leave time for past papers towards the end. This method does not guarantee scoring the best marks, it is in no way a sure-shot strategy to success. However, it creates an undeviating plan for the future which relies on effort and hardwork. As James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, once said, “You do not rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems”. My goals were never centered around winning awards or achieving great feats, instead focused on ensuring that I give a 100% effort behind these exams to the best of my capabilities.

It was a truly inspiring sight to witness each student walk across the stage to receive their well-deserved examination certificates. This assembly served as a heartfelt acknowledgment of their commitment to excellence and a testament to the unwavering support of our school community. The evening hit a high note with the show-stopping performance by the "Experimental BBQ" band. As they took the stage, the audience knew they were in for a treat. The talented musicians not only provided a memorable soundtrack for the celebration but also added a dash of spice to the evening, leaving everyone in high spirits. It was a fitting finale to a night of achievements, laughter, and the sweet taste of success!
