World Cup 2022 kicks off at Doha College
From that pivotal announcement in 2010, when the hosting of the 2022 World Cup was awarded to Qatar, we let our dreams of this day go wild, and reality is now surpassing those dreams. In fact, our school had taken its first step on the journey towards this historical landmark in 2009, when it launched “Doha College Backs the Bid” campaign in the Al Waab campus. The students were invited to put forward their best arguments that would support the country’s hosting bid, and the school showcased the most compelling presentations in front of esteemed members of Qatar’s bid committee members.
A photography contest, showing the support of the Doha College community for Qatar’s bid across the world, selected these two entries as the overall winners of the Primary and Secondary schools. Scroll through the gallery at the end of this blog to see more entries under other categories, such as "most exciting location" or "most humorous composition."

Back to the present though! Fast forward over a decade, and new generations of students, many of whom had not been born at the time Qatar won the bid, are reaping the extraordinary results of the efforts of those before them. On the day, students and staff all wore football kits, flags, wigs, scarves and national colours. Doha College turned its grounds into a mini-stadium for a day, and relished the joy and enthusiasm pouring through the campus.
