New Big 6 take on 2022-2023 student leadership
Each year, Doha College students and teachers elect a team of six 6th-formers to enhance the school experience for everyone. They are known as ‘The Big 6’ and they represent Doha College at public events, act as ambassadors of DC in the wider community, act as a liaison between the student body and the leadership group, and a lot more.
The application process is quite rigorous, and apart from submitting written entries, the candidates speak publicly to their peers and mentors about what they can bring to the role and why they want it. It is a process that benefits everyone – the students get an opportunity to practise and hone their leadership skills, while the school reaps the results of their enthusiasm and commitment. For those elected, the tenure of such positions is also an excellent point of sale to highlight on their personal statements as they apply for university places.
Here, these students who have gained the trust and confidence of their peers and teachers, share with us what motivated them to be a part of this team, and what they hope to achieve during their final year at the College:
I will be serving as Doha College’s Head Boy for the academic year 2022-2023. I am both honoured and excited to serve in this capacity as a member of the ‘Big 6’ team. We have some really amazing stuff planned for the coming year - though no spoilers yet! - and of course I would love to hear any ideas from my fellow students around the college.
I am the Head Girl of Doha College for this year. I have enjoyed being a representative for my peers to the upper leadership team. One of my ideas for the school this year, as a humanities student myself, would be providing more extracurriculars based around these subjects, such as economics, law and history.
During my years at Doha college, I have been part of many communities such as sport, music and drama. I also have been involved with the house system. I am so honoured to have been given this role and I can’t wait to make many positive additions to the school that will hopefully last long after I have left Doha College.
With my final year approaching, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of many teams ranging from rugby and basketball all the way to being one of the MUN executives. I hope to help make everyone feel welcomed in our community and with restrictions lifting, I would also like to help facilitate a smooth transition for all.
I am honoured to be one of Doha College's senior prefects this year. I’m a professional tennis player and I believe that there should be more opportunities for sixth form students to take part in physical activities which would help reduce the immense academic pressure and stress. With the new campus we can make new traditions.
I have the privilege of being one of the senior prefects this year. With normalcy returning, it is our goal to reinforce the positive changes implemented in prior years, and to foster new change. Encouraging students to step outside of their comfort zones and voice opinions knowing that they are capable, pivotal and catalysts of change.
Let us wish them the best of luck for this coming year, and keep an eye on our social media to see what they’re up to next.
