Doha College receives donation of golf teaching kit

Doha College was the lucky recipient of a children’s interactive golf kit, which will be used to introduce students to the sport as part of their physical education curriculum. The generous donation was marked at the school in the presence of Ashjan Saleh I S Al-Khalaf, CBQ Sponsorships and Events Manager and Michael Braidwood, General Manager of ECGC.

The SNAG kit (“Start New at Golf”), costing €2,000, was generously sponsored by Commercial Bank, and allows schools to teach children the basics of golf in their sports halls or playgrounds. Professional golf instructors from Education City Golf Club will train the school’s PE teachers on how to deliver lessons to the students.

The sets are interactive and make learning golf quick and easy for students. Although brightly coloured and sized for children, the clubs are made of similar materials to regular golf equipment, and therefore teach the correct physics of the game. Macey and Hugo, Year 6 students at Doha College, had an ‘un-fore-gettable’ experience by being the first to have a ‘shot’ at the golf sets and had a ‘tee-riffic’ time, as well as their game visibly improving during their very first session.

Mr Braidwood explained how the programme will positively impact sports education in schools: “Education City Golf Club is delighted to be in partnership with CBQ on this important initiative that brings golf into schools. We are seeing more young people take up golf, following on from trying it in their PE lessons at school. The SNAG kits help children learn golf in a visual and interactive manner. We are excited to see Doha College receive the SNAG kit and introduce golf into their PE curriculum.”

“Doha College is grateful to have formed a long-standing, yielding partnership with the Commercial Bank of Qatar, who made possible the construction of our exceptional new campus. We have also formed a close partnership with the Education City Golf Club, which is just next door to the College here. Thank you both for creating a programme that will so clearly benefit our students.”

Dr Steffen Sommer, Principal of Doha College

Sport at Doha College has always been a huge focus, and the school has a great golfing tradition involving passionate students, alumni and staff. For this reason, the gift could not have come to a more appreciative community, who will make the most of its benefits.
