Farewell to a Legend: Madame Mechmech’s Legacy of 33 Remarkable Years at Doha College

After 33 unforgettable years of dedicated service, Madame Mechmech is bidding farewell to Doha College and Qatar, leaving behind a legacy that has profoundly shaped generations of pupils, colleagues, and the wider school community.

A Lifelong Commitment to Excellence in Language and Culture

Madame Mechmech joined Doha College in the early 1990s, beginning a journey that would span over three decades and touch countless lives. As a passionate French teacher, she created a classroom environment that was much more than a place of language learning—it was a portal into French culture. Whether pupils were savoring homemade crêpes or playing spirited matches of pétanque, her lessons were immersive cultural experiences that enriched their understanding of the world.

Among those she inspired was none other than His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar. Reflecting on this extraordinary connection, Mme Mechmech shared immense pride in having played a part in the early education of someone who would go on to lead the nation.

Mme Mechmech also served for many years as a Year 10 form tutor, where her warmth, guidance, and empathetic presence made her a trusted mentor to countless pupils. Colleagues describe her as a steady, caring figure—always there with a kind word, a knowing smile, and unwavering support.

Her influence extended well beyond traditional academics. Through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program, Mme Mechmech mentored pupils in the culinary skills section, where the aroma of her cooking became a hallmark of creativity and camaraderie. These sessions were not just about food—they embodied her philosophy that education should be holistic, joyful, and deeply human.

During her tenure, Doha College rose to extraordinary heights on the global education stage. Today, the College is proudly ranked among the Top 100 Schools in the World by the Spear's Schools Index 2025 and recognised as one of the Top 15 Schools in the Middle East by Carfax Education’s 2024 Global Private Schools Index. Mme Mechmech has been part of this transformative journey—her contributions integral to the culture of excellence that defines Doha College today.

Madame Mechmech represents everything that is exceptional about Doha College—dedication, compassion, and a genuine love for teaching. Her legacy is not only measured by the thousands of pupils she has taught but also by the warmth, humour, and integrity she brought to our school every single day. It has been a privilege to work alongside her. We will miss her immensely and wish her all the happiness and fulfilment she so richly deserves in this next chapter.

Merci, Madame!

As she closes this extraordinary chapter in Qatar, Madame Mechmech is embarking on an exciting new adventure. She will soon settle in her beloved Tunisia, but not before making a stop in South Korea to pursue her lifelong passion for languages and culture. There, she plans to immerse herself in learning Korean and exploring the intricacies of Korean cuisine—adding yet another layer to her rich tapestry of global experiences.

As Mme Mechmech moves on from Doha College, the entire college community bids her a heartfelt au revoir. Her legacy will remain deeply rooted in the corridors, classrooms, and hearts of all those she touched.

We extend our sincerest thanks to Mme Mechmech for her outstanding service and wish her nothing but joy, health, and fulfillment in the years ahead.

Merci, Madame Mechmech. You will always be part of the Doha College family.
