Doha College Pupils Excel in Global Mathematics Competitions

Doha College is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils who have recently excelled in a range of prestigious mathematics competitions. Their accomplishments not only showcase their exceptional numerical ability but also reflect the resilience, curiosity, and intellectual discipline that are hallmarks of a Doha College education.

These outstanding results are a testament to our pupils’ perseverance and love for learning, as well as to the guidance and encouragement of their teachers who continually inspire them to reach new heights.

CEMC – University of Waterloo Gauss Competition

Last year, our Year 7 and Year 8 pupils took on the exciting challenge of the University of Waterloo Gauss Competition, organised by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC). Known for its intellectually stimulating questions, this competition tests mathematical understanding at the highest levels.

The Gauss Contests introduce pupils to a broader perspective of mathematics than their school curriculum typically provides in a fun and accessible way. Intriguing problems and a multiple-choice format make the Gauss contests a wonderful opportunity for all participants to grow their interest in and curiosity about the power of math.

Despite the demanding nature of the final questions, our pupils rose to the challenge brilliantly. Several earned distinction awards for their outstanding performances.

International Maths Challenge (IMC)

Doha College pupils once again demonstrated excellence in the International Maths Challenge (IMC), earning numerous Elitist and Champion Awards in this rigorous global contest.

The International Maths Challenge offers engaging online math tests and preparatory content to primary and middle school students worldwide. The competition demanded sharp reasoning, creative thinking, and sustained focus—all qualities our pupils displayed in abundance.

UKMT Junior Maths Olympiad

We are incredibly proud of our pupils who excelled in the UKMT Junior Maths Olympiad, one of the most respected problem-solving competitions for young mathematicians. The Junior Olympiad is a 2-hour Challenge consisting of 6 Olympiad-style questions.  Following their impressive performance in the Junior Maths Challenge, several of our pupils went on to earn distinctions and merits in the Olympiad.

This achievement highlights their analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and creativity in tackling complex mathematical challenges.

Mental Maths World Cup

We are delighted to celebrate our pupils’ outstanding achievements in this year’s Mental Maths World Cup. Competing against participants from across the globe, our young mathematicians demonstrated exceptional speed, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.

Several of our pupils earned the prestigious Master Award, while others achieved the highest levels of distinction with the Grandmaster and Zenmaster Awards. Notably, one pupil ranked among the top 100 worldwide, an incredible accomplishment considering the scale and difficulty of the competition.

The Doha College Mathematics Department continues to provide opportunities for pupils to develop critical thinking, resilience, and confidence through enriching academic challenges such as these. Such achievements reaffirm our commitment to nurturing not just high academic standards but also the character and integrity that prepare pupils to succeed beyond the classroom.

James Amos, Head of the Mathematics

We extend our warmest congratulations to all our pupils who participated in these international mathematics competitions. Your enthusiasm for learning and drive for excellence serve as an inspiration to the entire school community.
