Doha College Celebrates Qatar Sustainability Week 2025 with Community-Led Initiatives

Doha College proudly marked Qatar Sustainability Week 2025 with a series of meaningful, community-driven activities that brought pupils, staff, and families together in support of a greener future. From vibrant book swap events and hands-on planting projects to creative competitions and inspiring assemblies, each initiative highlighted our continued commitment to environmental responsibility. Across all age groups, our pupils embraced the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute to positive change, reflecting the values that shape our school's sustainability journey.

Primary Quad Planting

As part of Qatar Sustainability Week 2025, our pupils and volunteers came together to renovate and plant flowers in the Primary Quad. Over the past six months, the Sustainability Committee has worked on creating six raised plant beds using repurposed wood, complete with walkways constructed from repurposed bricks.

During Sustainability Week, pupils from both the Primary and Secondary Eco Prefects, alongside other volunteers, planted the final three planters. This activity not only enhanced the beauty of our school environment but also gave pupils a hands-on opportunity to engage in sustainable practices, learn about planting, and take pride in contributing to a greener campus.

Sustainable Book Swap Events

Thank you for supporting our Pre-Loved Book Swap!
As part of Qatar Sustainability Week, both our Primary and Secondary schools took part in a hugely successful book swap. Pupils across the school donated books they no longer read and exchanged them for new stories to enjoy.

A huge thank you to every family who donated! Your contributions encouraged meaningful reuse within our community, reduced waste, and helped bring us together in a wonderful celebration of sustainability and reading. Look out for the next book swap event in the not too distant future!

EYFS assembly

Some of our Secondary Eco Prefects delivered a captivating assembly for our EYFS pupils, blending storytelling, creativity, and sustainability education.

The assembly featured an adapted version of The Gruffalo, in which the Deep Dark Woods had been destroyed by human activity. Through the story, the young audience were introduced to the concept of environmental responsibility in a relatable and engaging way. The Eco Prefects highlighted simple, practical actions the pupils could take to help care for our planet, from recycling and reducing waste to respecting nature in their everyday lives.

The event not only raised awareness about sustainability but also demonstrated the leadership and creativity of our Secondary Eco Prefects, who inspired younger pupils to take meaningful action for the planet.

Pre-Loved Uniform Sale

Doha College hosted a successful Pre-Loved Uniform Sale, encouraging our community to give school uniforms a second life.

By reusing and recycling uniforms, families supported a more sustainable approach while helping to reduce waste and promote responsible consumption across our school community.

A big thank you to all the pupils, staff, families and volunteers who made this initiative possible. Moments like these show how our school community can work together across age groups to celebrate Qatar Sustainability Week and promote a greener, more sustainable future.

Eco School at Doha College

At Doha College, sustainability is more than an initiative; it’s a shared commitment that shapes the way we learn, live, and grow together. As proud participants in the global Eco-Schools Programme, our mission is to empower every pupil to take meaningful action for the planet and our local community here in Qatar.

Since 2016, the Eco-School Committee, led by pupils and staff, has worked tirelessly to raise environmental awareness and inspire positive change across the campus. Meeting weekly, the committee identifies challenges, develops solutions, and drives initiatives that help reduce our ecological footprint while cultivating responsibility and care for the environment.
