A Lasting Legacy: Doha College Pupils Create Stunning Library Mural
At Doha College, we take immense pride in fostering creativity, leadership, and teamwork among our students. A recent project exemplifies these values beautifully—the creation of a breathtaking mural now adorning our secondary school library. This masterpiece was painted by eight talented GCSE students under the guidance of 6th-form leaders as part of an extensive CCA programme.
As part of our extensive Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme, we encourage students to take initiative and lead projects that inspire and enrich the school community. In January 2024, Sixth Form students Lamees M and former student Muntaha H approached our Art Department with an ambitious idea: to run a CCA focused on creating a large-scale mural. Coincidentally, discussions were already underway with our Secondary Librarian, Mrs Ratnayake, about incorporating artwork into the library space. From this synergy, the vision for a Lord of the Rings-themed mural was born.
The project, a result of hard work, dedication, and artistic flair, was no small feat. It required meticulous planning and collaboration, as the mural was divided into 12 individual panels, each painted separately before being assembled into a seamless, grand display. Eight dedicated GCSE students—Haniyyah A, Riti S, Malika S, Inaya H, Evie H, Laura M, Miftah Z, and Cai B—took on the challenge with remarkable enthusiasm and perseverance. Using acrylic paint, they spent three terms refining their work, ensuring every detail contributed to the larger vision.
I am incredibly proud of what our pupils have accomplished with this mural. The hours they poured into every brushstroke, the care they took to ensure each panel connected seamlessly, and their commitment across three terms have resulted in a legacy piece that will inspire the school community for years to come. Our CCA programme at Doha College provides students with unique opportunities like this to lead, collaborate, and bring their creative visions to life beyond the classroom.
