A Heartfelt Evening of Unity: Doha College’s 2025 Community Iftar

Under the soft glow of an early evening sky, members of the Doha College community gathered on campus last week to mark one of the most treasured traditions in our school calendar — the annual Community Iftar. Parents, staff, and friends came together in a spirit of reflection, gratitude, and unity, honouring the values of Ramadan in a warm, welcoming setting.

As the sun set and the call to prayer filled the air, everyone paused to reflect before gathering for Maghrib prayer. The quiet reverence of the moment brought with it a sense of peace and connection that resonated deeply across the crowd.

Following the prayer, the grounds came alive with laughter, conversation, and the clinking of plates. Families brought an incredible array of lovingly prepared, home-cooked dishes, showcasing flavours from around the world — an incredible display of cultural richness, generosity, and care. From traditional Middle Eastern favourites to beloved family recipes from around the world, the variety of food mirrored the diversity that makes our school community so special. A selection of catered items from &Deli added to the spread, but it was the parents’ contributions and the heart behind them that made the evening truly unforgettable.

It was wonderful to see our community come together at our annual Iftar. The spirit of friendship and kindness was evident throughout the evening, and my huge thanks to all those who joined us and those who helped prepare the event.

David Tongue, Principal of Doha College

As I reflect on last week’s Community Iftar, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. These events are more than a simple gathering and sharing of food — they are a powerful reminder of the strength, warmth, and unity that define our school community. Events like our Iftar remind us that learning and growth happen not just in classrooms, but in the connections we foster and the understanding we build together. Our diversity is our strength, and together, we make Doha College a place where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Derek Watson, Senior Vice Principal - Head of Primary

What struck me most was the atmosphere — calm, joyful, and full of warmth. It wasn’t just about breaking the fast, it was about breaking down barriers and bringing people together. Our students, staff, and parents shared not only food but stories, laughter, and a sense of unity that reminds us of the deeper purpose behind education: building understanding, empathy, and connection. It was a beautiful reminder of how much we can learn from each other when we simply come together.

Jerome Scafe, Senior Vice Principal - Head of Secondary

As the final plates were cleared and guests began to say their goodbyes, the spirit of the evening lingered — a sense of peace, shared purpose, and renewed connection. Events like these are a powerful reflection of what Doha College stands for: a diverse, inclusive, and caring community where every individual is valued and every tradition is honoured.

To all the families who contributed dishes, to the staff who helped behind the scenes, and to every person who joined us — thank you for making the 2025 Community Iftar a truly memorable celebration. May this Ramadan continue to bring blessings, peace, and togetherness to all.

Ramadan Kareem from all of us at Doha College.
