Bronze Expedition – Sri Lanka 2006
Itinerary
DAY ONE- 21stth February
AFTER ARRIVAL AT COLOMBO AIRPORT, STUDENTS ALONG WITH THE TEACHERS WILL BE DRIVEN TO THE MOUNTAIN RESORT CAMPING SITE AT RIVER GARDEN AT BELIHUL OYA WITH A STOP OVER AT BALANGODA FOR LUNCH.
WE WILL BREAK JOURNEY AT RATNAPURA WHERE ALL THE PRECIOUS GEMSTONES ARE MINED IN SRI LANKA. HERE THE STUDENTS CAN SHOP FOR ALL THEIR DRY RATIONS AND WHAT EVER THEY NEED FOR THEIR EXPEDITION.
ARRIVAL AT RIVER GARDEN AROUND 1600 HRS. STUDENTS WILL BE CAMPING OUT NEXT TO THE BELIHULOYA STREAM ON THE LAND BLONGING TO THE RIVER GARDEN RESORT. COMFORTABLE BIG TENTS (FOUR PERSONS PER TENT) WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE STUDENTS BY MILUCO ADVENTURE TOURS FOR THE FIRST AND THIRD NIGHT.
DINNER WILL BE PROVIDED BY RIVER GARDEN RESORT BELIHULOYA HAMLET SITUATED 160 KM, FROM COLOMBO IN THE HISTORICAL SABARAGAMUWA PROVINCE.
RIVER BATH IN THE NATURAL ROCK POOL IN ‘BELIHULOYA ‘UNDER THE STARS AND BONFIRE.
DAY TWO- 22nd February
WAKE UP AROUND 0630HRS AND AFTER BREAKFAST THE STUDENTS WILL START ON THE FIRST DAY OF TREKKING ON THEIR EXPEDITION.
THE TRAIL STARTS FROM A BEAUTIFUL WATER FALL OF THE BELIHULOYA RIVER THAT FLOWS BY THE RIVER GARDEN RESORT AND ENDS WHERE THE RIVER ENDS. THE TRAIL ENDS WHERE THE RIVER FALLS INTO THE SAMANALAWEWA RESERVOIR. YOU MAY HAVE A NICE COOL RIVER BATH IN A SMALL ROCK POOL IN THE RIVER BEFORE GETTING TO THE CAMPSITE---KINCHIGUNE. STUDENTS SET UP CAMP AND COOK.
DAY THREE- 23rd February
AFTER BREAKFAST AND BREAKING CAMP THE STUDENTS WILL START ON DAY TWO OF THEIR TREKKING EXPEDITION.
THIS TREK STARTING AT KINCHIGUNE WILL GO MOSTLY THROUGH RIVERINE FOREST ALONG THE FAMOUS WALAWE RIVER AND GOES PAST TWO WATERFALLS AND ENDS IN KALTOTA.
STUDENTS WILL BE PICKED UP AFTER THE TREK AT KALTOTA AND WILL BE DRIVEN BACK TO THE RIVER GARDEN RESORT.
DAY FOUR-24th February
AFTER BREAKFAST WE DO A SMALL TRECK.
START OUR JOURNEY TOWARDS THE COASTAL TOWN OF NEGOMBO AND TO KUMUDU VALLEY RESORT WHERE THE GROUP WILL SPEND THE NIGHT.
ON THE WAY TO NEGOMBO WE WILL STOP FOR LUNCH AROUND 12. 30HRS. ARRIVAL AT NEGOMBO AROUND 1800HRS. AFTER CHECKING IN TO KUMUDUVALLEY RESORT THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TIME TO RELAX AND HAVE A SWIM BEFORE GOING ON TO HAVE DINNER AT BROWNS BEACH HOTEL IN NEGOMBO.
BACK TO KUMUDU VALLEY AFTER DINNER.
DAY FIVE-25TH February
AFTER LATE BREAKFAST AND A SWIM WE DEPART AROUND 1230HRS TO THE AIRPORT FOR THE RETURN JOURNEY TO DOHA.

Q1. Does my child need any vaccinations for Sri Lanka?
In conjunction with the School Nurse and the National Health Authority, Qatar for Preventive Health Department, Communicable Disease Control & Prevention Section that Anti Malaria, Meningitis & Typhoid are required. Tel: 4473131
Also I have checked out the NHS website in the UK as directed by the UK
Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The web address is www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/Country/Sri_Lanka.html Updated Anti Tetanus is also required.
If you go to the centre mentioned above they are willing to administer the vaccinations and tablets. You will require your Hamad Health Card and Immunisation record.
It is the responsibility of parents to make decisions on the immunization of their children
Q2. Do I require medical Insurance?
It is recommended that students have comprehensive medical and travel Insurance. The Doha College has life insurance for worldwide cover of its students and staff.
Q3. What is the political situation in Sri Lanka?
We will monitor travel Advice Bulletins from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office www.fco.gov.uk.
Q3. What are the entry requirements to Sri Lanka?
Visitors coming to Sri Lanka should have a valid passport. Seventy nationalities are exempt from visa fee (only for tourist visa) for a period of 30 days on arrival at Colombo Airport.
