P.E. Department
The excellent facilities are put to good use. Students take part in a wide variety of activities including swimming, water polo, hockey, athletics, badminton, table tennis, orienteering, basketball, volleyball, short tennis, softball, football, rugby, step aerobics (girls), dance (girls) and gymnastics (girls). Local fixtures are arranged in volleyball, basketball and football, plus running and swimming events. The aim of the department is to encourage participation and self-improvement of all students at all ability levels. Facilities. The department has a fully air-conditioned multi purpose building, offering facilities for badminton, basketball and many other sports. There are also multi-purpose and fitness rooms. Outdoors there is a 25 metre swimming pool, a grass pitch and an all weather astro-turf pitch. Courses. In general the department follows the N.C. for England and Wales. There are two double P.E. lessons a week for years 7-11. Physical Education to GCSE level is available as an option for years 10 - 11. Post 16 students follow AS-level Physical Education, AVCE Leisure and Recreation and the Community Sports Leaders Award. This involves helping out in PE lessons as well as optional PE double lessons twice a week. The fitness rooms and other facilities are available to staff and post 16 students during 'non-contact' lesson time and at times outside the 'school day'. Activities. PE department provides a number of after school activities. These include basketball, football, badminton, rugby, American football, cricket, gymnastics, netball, hockey, use of fitness rooms and swimming. Events. PE department organizes many inter-school sporting events, these include school inter-house competitions, swimming galas and sports days. Doha College is also involved in local school competitions in a wide variety of sports. There is an annual 'sports exchange' with Dubai College. |
