Botball is a hands-on learning experience in robotics designed to engage students in learning the practical applications of science, technology, engineering and math.

At the invitation of Carnegie Mellon University (Qatar), Doha College registered for the 2006 Botball tournament.  Our first team consists of 5 students from years 7 and 8 mentored by Mr. Fernandez.

Our challenge this year was to build 2 robots that were capable of picking up a series of colored balls of different sizes within a competition arena. We then had to place the balls in our team's home zone.

We managed to do this and created one named spider and the other called B.O.B.

Spider's objective was to go around and suck up the tribbles with the two treads that are placed at the front of the robot. The two treads then directed the balls into the Ball compartment chamber. Once the tribbles enter the chamber they are then directed to a paddle at the back so that when the balls need to come out, the paddle turns kicking the tribbles out.

B.O.B's objective was to go over the pipes after the first 30 seconds and attack the

other team's home area and bully them by bumping them and blocking them.

On the 27th of May, we took part in the Botball Competition held at the City Centre. We competed in a series of seeding events to see how many Tribbles we could pick up in 90 seconds. We came 3rd in the seeding rounds. In the Double elimination rounds we managed to come 4th. We came 4th overall and received an award for the best junior design for a robot. Hopefully next year we will build an even better robot. We would like to thank Carnegie Mellon university for supplying the kits and we like to thank everybody for their support.
