Course Synopsis:
GCE Travel and Tourism offers students
the opportunity to investigate and develop an understanding of the
travel and tourism industry in a vocational context. Six units are
studied in total – three at AS level and three at A2 level. You will
have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of learning experiences in a
vocational and educationally stimulating environment. Your learning
experience will include business visits, conferences, work experience,
role-plays and simulations.
The course will lead to the acquisition of a number of valuable skills
such as research, evaluation and problem-solving skills, the ability to
plan, priorities and meet deadlines and the ability to work
independently and within teams.
The course may lead to a variety of university courses in addition to
work in the travel and tourism industry.
Work Experience In The Ritz

During the Second year of the course you will have the opportunity to
select a work experience placement of your choice that reflects your
future vocational direction.
The course would be suitable for students with an interest in the Travel
& Tourism industry who have the ability to work to deadlines and the
maturity to work independently.

Unit 1:introducing
Travel & Tourism
This unit is externally assessed by examination and
provides an introduction to Travel and Tourism. You will investigate
the development of Travel & Tourism and the roles of the different
sectors of the Travel & Tourism industry. |
Unit 5: Tourism Impacts and
Tourism Developments
In this unit you will look at the impacts that tourism has both
positive and negative and the objectives and impacts of tourism
development, economic, environmental and socio-economic.

Unit 2: Travel Destinations
This unit involves the preparation of a portfolio of travel
information for destinations and you will be required to undertake
research to acquire the extensive knowledge required.
This unit looks
at a range of tourist destinations, their appeal
and also considers trends and the future popularity of the
destinations. |
Unit 6: Trends and
Issues in Travel & Tourism
This unit is portfolio assessed and is synoptic in nature. You will
consider a topical issue affecting the Travel & Tourism industry at
the time of study, these include, environmental issues,
technological issues, political issues and socio-economic issues. |
