Course Synopsis:
Applied Business provides students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of business in a work-related context. The Double Award is offered which is equivalent to two A Levels. Six units are studied at both AS and A2 level.
Applied Business will lead to the acquisition of skills which will be
invaluable for study on higher education courses. These include research
skills, the ability to work independently, critical analysis and evaluation.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of learning experiences in
a vocational and educationally stimulating environment. The vocational
nature of this course will also help to prepare you for the world of work.

During the first year of your course you will have the opportunity to select
a work experience placement that matches your future job aspirations.
This course would be suitable for students with an interest in Business who
have the ability to work to deadlines and the maturity to work
independently.

1:Investigating Business
This unit
explores the world of business and the nature of enterprise. You will
explore the meaning of enterprise and why individuals and teams are
vital to the success of a business. |
Unit 8: Business Planning
In this unit you
will identify a business idea and develop it to produce a business
plan. |

Unit 2: People in Business
To provide goods
and services, businesses rely on the people who work for them. You
will learn about how and why people work in business, and what
influences them at work. |
Unit 9: Marketing Strategy
In this portfolio
assessed unit, you will consider the importance of marketing
strategies and tactics for businesses as they attempt to meet
different customer needs and deal with a variety of competitors. |

Unit 3: Financial Planning &
Monitoring.
In this
externally assessed unit, you will learn about costs, revenues and
profit and how managers use this information in decision-making. |
Unit 10: Promotional Activities
Effective
marketing campaigns do not just happen. In this unit you will learn

and how they impact upon the way a business operates and upon the
staff who work in it. |

developing a new product such as Research & Development, quality,

Unit 14: Managing
Change
In this portfolio
assessed unit, you will explore the types of change organisations have
to make and develop your team- working and problem-solving skills. |

assessed unit offers you the opportunity to develop the skills
required to promote yourself in the best light to further education

Unit 15: Financial
Accounting for Managers
This externally
assessed unit builds on the work undertaken in Unit 3 and you will
study book-keeping and financial accounting systems.
