| Social Committee |
What is it?
The Social Committee is a group of students who put their
creativity and planning together in a productive way in
order to organise various events and socials during the
course of the school year for the rest of the sixth form
students.
Who is in it?
The head of the committee this year is Natalie Macrae and
the Deputy is Leila Zid. The other participating members of
the social committee are Dana El-Tawil, Hind Al-Fardan,
Amiee Victoria Harrison, Nasser Al-Ansari, Callum Elsby, Leo
Kalotheou, Joshpal Kalsi, Josie Fathers, Sayf Said, Lisa
Djedid and Lulu Omara.
Every member’s input and involvement in the committee is
essential and equally valued. We encourage everyone to voice
their opinions and everyone is open to build on things
people say and compromise when planning at all the meetings.
The main aim of the committee is team work.

How is it run?
Prior to events, meetings are held and every member is
involved in one way or another as we assign roles for
people according to what fits their interest and how
they can contribute in the best way possible towards the
committee. Certain tasks such as food & drink,
decorations, ticket sales, posters, dj & music, gate
duties and other duties are assigned to different
members to be completed; however in the end we all work
together as a team in order to accomplish all the tasks
in the most efficient way.
We try to organise atleast one event every month; we
already held a Halloween party, we are currently
planning a Christmas party this month to get all the
students in the festive mood just as the holidays come
around and we also are planning ahead for our Leavers’
Ball which is currently scheduled for late April/ early
May '10. |

This year the social committee also wants to provide the
sixth formers with something different aside from all the
events. We thought it would be a good idea to get school
jumpers with all the leavers names printed on the back as
something everyone can take away to university so that we
will always be reminded of the phenomenal experience we have
all had at Doha College. The idea was proposed to many of
the students and we received enthusiastic responses.
Although our main way of funding is through ticket sales,
bake sales and sponsors, we are going to try and budget our
money carefully this year so we can have more events and
also we have come up with different ways of generating money
such as fairs, leavers hand printing day, themed parties
etc. just to give it a fun twist.
Why take part?
I believe being a part of any committee is a plus for anyone
because you gain skills such as organization, a sense of
involvement and responsibility, the opportunity to voice
your ideas and unleash your creativity and also it teaches
you the importance of co-operating with each other and that
team work is vital when planning things for everyone to
enjoy.
