What are the entry requirements for 6th Form courses at Doha College?
With regard to GCSE results, it has been established over many years,
through the analysis of UK national statistics, that unless students gain at
least B grades in their chosen subjects for A Level, they are unlikely to
cope with the significant demands of this higher level. This is more so now
where four subjects in Year 12, reducing to three in Year 13 is the ‘norm’.
Thus, our standard entry requirements for 6th Form courses are:
• At least five C grades at GCSE, including both English and Mathematics,
with at least B grades in the subjects chosen for study at A Level
For external applicants, school reports are very important documents, with
consideration given to comments about behaviour and overall contribution to
their school.
Another factor to consider is the availability of places. We can never be
completely sure of how many students there will be in Year 12, until,
perhaps, the second week of the new academic year. This is because the GCSE
results are not released until the 25th August.
We will always attempt to provide each student with their chosen 6th Form
courses (subject to the above factors and, of course, to subject
combinations being possible in conjunction with staff availability) and
priority will always be given to returning Doha College students over
external applicants.
As you are making your option choices you should take time out and consider
your future educational needs. With this in mind, we recommend you visit
www.teachernet.gov.uk/aimhigher as this has some excellent guidance.
We hope that all the above information is clear. In addition, please read
carefully the information provided by the individual subject areas. However,
if you would like to discuss further any particular points, please do
contact me.
