Design & Technology - 6th Form
Year 12
Each student undertakes two design and make projects, the themes of which are set by the department. The reason for this is to make the transition from GCSE to A Level less arduous by allowing the students to interact and share information. During this period a series of theory lessons are integrated into the coursework structure enabling the students to cover the specifications set by the board at the time that is relevant to their projects.
Assessment in Year 12
A final 2 hour exam structured around materials and components, design and market influences and industrial processes and manufacture is undertaken. The end of the course is assessed through the coursework and one 2 hour examination testing the students on materials, industrial manufacture and components.
Examples of AS Level Work
Year 13
This follows a similar pattern, although this time, each student, with guidance from a teacher, will choose a project of their own interest. This is designed to stretch the students to their individual levels, whilst designing and making a project that is marketable and/or suitable for production industrially.
All students are directed to find real clients for whom they will research, design and develop a practical and realistic marketable product.
Assessment in Year 13
At the end of the unit students will undertake a test, the result of which will be given, along with a written summary of the student’s progress, overall attainment level, effort and behaviour.
