DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Studying Psychology introduces students to a wide variety of research and contemporary issues reflecting the subject’s diverse influences from the Sciences and the Arts. Students are expected to think imaginatively and critically.
In Units 1, and 2 (studied in Year 12) the students gain an understanding of the debates between the different approaches in Psychology and the issue of ethics in research. For example: models of memory, can we remember purely through rehearsal? Also emotional attachments, do they affect us throughout our lives?
Contemporary issues in Psychology and the application of key theories is a major part of the AS exams. Contemporary issues studied include: ‘Does day care harm children’s emotional development?’ and ‘Why do people conform and how does social change happen?’
