Post 16 decisions

In January you will receive your options booklet.  Enclosed will be detailed information on each subject available for study at Post 16 at Doha College.  Students need to gain a minimum of 5+ GCSE’s at grade C and above, including Math’s, English and Science; entry requirements for continuation of a subject is grade B.

To prepare yourself for making your application you can make sure you are self aware and understand all your options by following these steps:

  1. Make a list of what subjects you are good at/ like the most.
  2. Identify the skills you have that support your success in certain subjects.
  3. Assess how you prefer to study: Academic/vocational/exam based/course work.

When you have a list of possible subjects for A Level

  1. Find out what the course involves at A Level/BTEC National Award by researching Post 16 subject information on www.dohacollege.com
  2. Speak to teachers about what is involved and how they think you will cope with the course.
  3. Read information on any new subjects on offer at A Level/BTEC National Award.
  4. Research how your selected subjects lead to future careers/courses  and how well they go together by using ‘Making Connections’(available in the school library) or the advanced search options through www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u
  5. If you are interested in a specific career or career area research the entry requirements; are there specific subjects needed? www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u careers database

By now you should have a list of 4-5 possible subject choices you would like to study in Post 16.  If you are worried about meeting the entry requirements above or need to talk through your options further please call in to the Careers Office, in Student Services, to book an appointment with me.
